Dawn Cove Abbey commemorates the Abbey Dawn tradition, and honours it by incorporating its name (and including
a reference to my Maritime locality), and reflecting Abbey Dawn's spirit, while having added my own "flavour".
I try to continue the tradition of blending body, mind and spirit in that reverential, holistic manner. To achieve that
goal, I have provided resources for human growth: mentally, emotionally and spiritually.
Dawn Cove Abbey is truly a community - with members locally and around the world - members "communicate" - talk &
write. There is also a chapel/sanctuary, but the Abbey's main focus has shifted to electronic "distance services":
offered wherever they may be needed.
Dawn Cove Abbey is made possible, in part, through generous gifts, help and donations of members past and present -
no one has ever been turned away, or refused services or help because of financial difficulty.
I shall always be grateful to all of those who have contributed.
I sincerely hope that Dawn Cove Abbey may be of benefit to you.
We firmly believe in the "Pay It Forward" principle
(where you pass along to others any good deeds that have been done to you).

About Abbeys
Abbeys began early in the medieval ages (as outgrowths of monasteries).
They were places of retreat, where communities of like-minded people lived to pursue their healing and learning:
places to withdraw to from "the world".
They were based on a model from the Egyptian desert where the Coptic Christians had already been operating them
for centuries.
Abbeys (and monasteries) were not only places of contemplation and worship.
They were also literary, cultural and artistic centres which preserved language, written culture, habits and
national self-consciousness.
Abbeys were also important centers of learning and peaceful arts. In many countries, they were the only places
of learning, since scholarship had gone into a decline in the Dark Ages - they were also places of worship.
The Church's monasteries/abbeys were seats of learning and study which evolved into modern universities. They
also provided the first hospitals for the care of the sick.
The healing tradition is continued here by offering services for spiritual and emotional wellbeing.

- Humanistic: because I believe that people are the agents, and our human cultures and institutions are the
agencies.
- Spiritual (connectedness): because I believe everything (and everyone) is inter-connected - the web of life.
Extra-personal (our connectedness with others): recognizing the unity of all things, being connected with something
larger than self, harmony with the universe, having just relationships with others, helping others to self-actualize,
developing more responsible interpersonal relationships.
- We live in a world where kindness, decency, concern and consideration are viewed with suspicion, and are often
mistaken for weakness.
- In our current socio-cultural world, these qualities appear to be more and more an exception, than a rule.
- My desire is to help promote understanding to change that through knowledge, understanding, personal growth
and healing.

__________________________________________
My name is Klaas Tuinman and I established Dawn
Cove Abbey in 1998 as a healing/learning Dawn of
founder: Wallace Havelock Robb (see WHR).
- Abbey Dawn was a retreat, study-centre
and sanctuary presided over by the late
Wallace Havelock Robb, Canadian nature
poet, humanist, writer, historian and
naturalist; and most importantly, my friend.
- Dawn Cove Abbey is modelled on that
format.
- Abbey Dawn was a gathering place for
scholars artists, poets, writers & religious
folk of all kinds: creative & spiritual people.
- The entire focus was on the inherent good
of people, and the true history of how we
came to be, rather than the one promoted
normally in schools and in public.
- Abbey Dawn embodied a reverence for all
life, including nature, and it was also a
sanctuary for birds: Wallace was the first
to begin the nesting boxes for Eastern
Bluebirds (Canada) program.
- Dawn Cove Abbey formerly reflected that
with its walking & Nature trails for bird and
wildlife watching, as well as for retreats.
- Now, in its mobile, portable form, other
places, anywhere, of a similar nature provide
such retreat settings.
Dawn Cove Abbey is:
- a humanistic - spiritual (not religious)
community helping men, women, and
- not a typical abbey in the traditional style -
I carry on in the tradition of Abbey Dawn -
to help people anywhere overcome their
barriers to actualize their potential.
