Santum One is a compassionate, inclusive, and welcoming Independent Liberal Catholic Spiritual Centre:
- a mobile chapel in the Gnostic Tradition providing a locus for spiritual wholeness and freedom.
Sanctum One: helping men & women everywhere understand how God (The Creator) works in their respective
lives. It is inclusive and welcoming: all are welcome at our altar and services regardless of race, gender,
marital or economic status, sexual orientation or denominational and spiritual, religious affiliation; wherever
you are.
God (however you understand 'him') doesn't reject people: neither do we.
Independent Liberal Catholic - a gnostic oriented dynamic, mobile community centred in Yarmouth, Nova
Scotia (NS) Canada
- available online since 1992.
Offering sanctuary, assistance, service and refuge for anyone on a spiritual renewal journey, or search.
NOTE: Catholic simply means "universal" (everywhere). Everywhere is where Spirit (Creator/Creatrix) is.
Sanctum One - the mobile un-church 'church' with an itinerant, unconventional
(also mobile) Priest welcomes you, wherever you are.
- a “church” for independent thinkers who still prefer a sacramental
Liturgy with ceremony and ritual
- and for those who are on a spiritual quest, regardless of the religious
orientation.
- Deeply spiritual, and believing fully in the development of true human
potential.
- Experience God through gnosis: a gnostic approach to spirituality (without
having to be a "gnostic").
Gnostic religion was dogmatic. A place that provides the opportunity for a free
and independent connection with "spirit" logically cannot have dogma - that
would be a contradiction in terms.
Liturgy (Services):
- Mass: Weekly (Our Liturgy: an inclusive, ecumenical format to exercise and express
freedom of belief): experiencing the Divine directly (the gnostic element or dimension).
- After mass: "Fireside Chats"/Discussion Group (indoors/outdoors)
- Sacraments - Liturgy: We celebrate all 7 sacraments of the Catholic Church (baptism, mass,
confession/absolution etc).
- Celebrated in a hall, your home, outdoors (seaside or forest): it is a mobile church - a
"cathedral of the wild"; and now also available online with Skype or MSN conferencing.
- “This is my simple religion. There is no need for temples; no need for complicated philosophy.
Our own brain, our own heart is our temple; the philosophy is kindness.” ~Dalai Lama

We believe in a God of Grace & Love - not a God of Fear and Terror -
We also believe that for complete wholeness, one must address and integrate spirit, mind and body.
We further believe that since the ancient scripture says “let us create humankind in our likeness, and thus they created them: male and female", that “God” as we know him/her has both feminine and masculine characteristics, hence guaranteeing the essential equality of both genders (the feminine aspect is known as the Matronit or Shekinah).
For more on what we believe (Our Creed, or Credo, also read Independent Liberal Catholic.

Spiritual freedom at Sanctum One:
- Independent: we cherish freedom and diversity of belief
- Liberal: We accept that others may conceive of God in ways that are different from ours.
- Gnostic: the journey through the Liturgy and the mystery of the Mass leads you to closer
communion and knowledge of God: christian & gnostic? - absolutely!
- Our inclusive, ecumenical, liberal and independent liturgy maintains the spirit of Jesus who said,
"Come to me all you who are weary and heavy-laden;
let not your heart be troubled,
for I will bring you peace".
We are a spiritual home (church chapel) - or church away from home - for those who don't have one; or
who are looking for a "new" one, with a pastor to talk to - and discuss things with: a spiritual oasis.
We welcome all seekers after Spirit from ALL traditions.
- While truly Catholic (universal), Sanctum One serves God (however people understand him/her) -
breaking through 2000 years of ideology and dogma.
- We attempt to untangle the dogmatic from the core precepts: morality is not just a "feel good"
thing: it hinges on a law. That law is to "only do things if they cause no hurt to others - and are
reciprocally agreed upon - because "Love is the Law".
- Ideally, people come to church not because they are supposed to - but because they wish to
exercise their spiritual needs with others on the same path: church means "community" - and many
seek the synergy of community. We are such a community.
Are you restless,
- Searching for answers, looking for the meaning of life, or for meaning in your life?
- Do you need inner healing?
- Are you on a spiritual quest, but unable so far to find a comfortable place to rest?
- Sanctum One is an oasis and stopping place for those on a spiritual path, it may be part of
their answer.
Sanctum One: a catholic spiritual community and church providing a place to worship, or find, God: an
holistic, spiritual, sacred healing sanctuary (its services are also available online).
It is a sanctuary for Liturgy (church), Prayer, Study, Contemplation & Meditation, Retreats,
Spiritual Direction (Guidance) and Workshops.
Above all, we celebrate the concept of service taught by the transfigured, cosmic and mystical
Christ and all the sacraments.
We, through our site and services, are dedicated to helping people:
only you can take the next step to engage in spiritual growth - remember:
- Ask, and you shall receive - all you need to do is to ask: for help, an ear, someone who cares, etc -
we can provide both.
- Seek, and you shall find - in your search for new answers "outside the box", Sanctum One may be
the place for you - to begin or re-start your journey.
- Knock, and the door shall be opened - all you need to do is write or call - and a whole new life
could be awaiting to unfold for you, or within you - you may find answers to questions you've held for
a long time.
As a priest, Fr. Klaas is a guide into the mysteries of life; of the soul; of the unconscious; the
sacraments and mass - a psychopomp (guide to the mysteries) who does not impose his views on others
- but simply provides "space" for theirs.
He is a guide, not a mediator or legislator.
He definitely is not God's "gate-keeper".
He is a pastor you can talk to; who listens - who takes your point-of-view seriously; a pastor who will
help you on your quest, who takes your quest seriously - who sees you as a unique being - who helps
discern the walk, or journey, the Creator has for you: a pastor who is a guide and mentor - not your
director! Are you being called to continue your start or journey today?
His mandate is to help people reconnect with themselves, others and the infinite, and to help
people find healing.
Priests used to be the scientists that helped people understand life (and to advance science,
technology & knowledge): Fr. Klaas is here to serve in that spirit: His professional, academic specialty
is the human mind/soul - and healing. Fr. Klaas is available to talk to; pray with you, or pray for you.
His Ministry is holistic and ecumenical, and thus incorporates information & resources dealing with
human life, and human life situations and problems. He has a counseling-outreach ministry/service, as
well as retreats, seminars & workshops to help people re-connect the pieces of their lives.
Notes:
We are not Roman Catholic, nor is the Roman Catholic Church in formal communion
with us (nor with the Anglican/Episcopal, Liberal & many Old Catholic Churches
either) - see "Independent Liberal Cath" for more detail.
We recognize the Roman Catholic Church's sacraments and Holy Orders, and
respect the Pope as the Bishop of Rome.
I believe there is unity in diversity, of life, of people, and of spirituality: we are one.
Independent Liberal Catholic Church: in the Gnostic Tradition

The "un-church"Chapel
at Dawn Cove Abbey
Independent Liberal Catholic Chapel in the Gnostic Tradition
Doesn't it seem odd to just do the "religion thing" an hour or two weekly,
and then spend the next 6 days as if that never happened?
That approach is a disconnection.
We try to provide an approach where people can build their spirituality - integrate it into who they are as
a person - and learn to live it - seven days a week. That process will be different for each person.
- The "church part" we offer is just like-minded people celebrating together and connecting and re-
connecting with others, and themselves.
- If you arrived here whilst searching for something else, perhaps it was no accident that you found
us - read "For A Reason". Perhaps you were directed here because there may be help here for you
in your journey or quest.

Hence, Sanctum One simply is a venue or place for you to connect, or re-connect - in the company of others
without dogma. There is no required set of beliefs you are expected to have, or accept.
Provides a ministry (service) of outreach, support and guidance to help people connect or re-connect with
the sacred, themselves, others and God (however they perceive Him/Her to be).
- We are not affiliated with the Roman Catholic jurisdiction, yet, as an Independent Catholic Church, at
Sanctum One we do celebrate the same sacraments as Rome - these are universal (and what makes a
church "catholic").
- In its beliefs and theology it strives to be a place of healing and comfort where seekers come to
encounter the Christ, however they understand him, and for this reason our sacraments, including
Holy Communion are open to all who come - regardless of their tradition or denomination.
- Should you visit with us and join in, you will find our liturgy to be a blend of Roman, Anglican, Liberal
and Old Catholic rites and our parish to be very family and people oriented.
We are all spiritual wayfarers: spiritual beings living in a human body,
who had forgotten that - and lived the illusion
that we were human beings looking to become spiritual ones.
